The IBHS Theater Department is no stranger to putting on a grand performance for its many audience members, such as Charlie Brown or The Crucible, but this year’s school musical, Anyone Can Whistle, is unique because its music is written by the amazing Stephen Sondheim, who truly reinvented the ideal American musical by creating famous productions like “Sweeney Todd” and “Into the Woods”. “Anyone Can Whistle”, one of Sondheim’s classics, follows a dwindling town that’s cold and starving until a “miracle” happens that changes the town forever.

All around, the cast of the show is enjoying themselves and are very excited to perform.

Ethyn Dickerson, playing Comptroller Schub, says,“I think this may be my favorite role I’ve had, and I’m excited to be with the seniors in their last musical.”

The crew, who work tirelessly backstage and in the booth by controlling the lights, microphones, and tracking of the cast, plays a very integral part of the show despite not being onstage.

Dylan Webb says that this show is “a bit difficult because there are a lot of people on stage. It’s hard trying to figure out who to switch mics with who, but it’s part of the fun and will turn out great.”

When asked how difficult it is to direct and choreograph this music, Mrs. Roderick responded: “Probably the most challenging show I’ve blocked, but I know that our cast and crew can pull off a great show.”

If you’re curious about the show and would love to see the passion people have on and offstage, come witness the miracle of “Anyone Can Whistle” on October 21st and 22nd at 7:30, or October 23rd at 2:30.
