The Illini Bluffs Boy’s basketball team had an outstanding victory against Elmwood last night at the Bushnell Prairie Sectional Game, toppling the Trojans 45-15.
The Tigers set the pace in the game early with aggressive gameplay and strong rebounding skills from junior Hank Alvey.
Within the first minute of the game, the Tigers were in a 6-point lead and maintained at least a 4-point lead for the rest of the game.
“The mindset right now is one game at a time, so we were only focused on our opponent Elmwood, and their players. Our team put together an elite defensive performance together and held them to 15 points,” said assistant coach Joe Waters.
The defense was key here in the early game. Sophomores Toby Cooper and Devon White alongside junior Wyatt Hendel proved a statement by blocking early shots from the Trojans.
When asked about his performance, Hendel confirmed his success, stating “My man did not score many points.”
Within the first quarter, the score was 12-6, the second was 25-8, the third was 32-13, and was brought to victory with the final score of 45-15. Alvey would lead with a 21 points scored followed by sophomore guard Devon White with 10 points.
When revealing the method to success, Alvey reflected, “We didn’t let the guys have easy layups, we needed to keep them outside.”
After winning the regional championship 56-39 against Brown County, the Tigers have done an excellent job of setting standards high and preserving the momentum they’ve created in the latter half of their regular season. The Tigers are poised and ready for a big win Friday against the winner of tonight’s game between Peoria Christian and Camp Point Central. Tickets for the game can be purchased for $8 at the door or $7 using the Go-Fan app.
