Staff Picks: What’s on your holiday playlist?
BY STAFF
“Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” by Elmo & Patsy – Ayden B.
I picked this song because it’s just cheerful. I could play this in the car and everyone would start singing. It is a song that a lot of people know but don’t hear often. If this came on in a store I would start singing I don’t care if people are around.
“Hot Chocolate” by Tom Hanks – Alexis R.
The Polar Express is genuinely one of my favorite Christmas movies ever. Hot Chocolate is such a good song from the soundtrack and the scene it goes with is so fun. I think it’s a perfect song to add to a holiday playlist because it has a warm, exciting feeling. It truly does embody the feeling of having your first hot chocolate of the winter season.
“Christmas Celebration” by Weezer – Josh B.
It’s Weezer, and I like Weezer. It’s a goofy song about the overindulgence of Christmas and it calls Santa “That obese man”. It doesn’t get better than that.
“Christmas Eve/Sarajevo” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Alex R.
This song has always been my favorite song, it’s all instrumental version of Carol of The Bells. The song adds a lot of energy, adding a rock element. When I hear this song I think it would be something that would play while you’re driving through a blizzard, it’s calm at first but angry later. This song differs from many other holiday songs, the others tend to be much calmer, with more of a jolly feel, but not this, it chooses to go for a more epic feel.
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by Dean Martin – Will G.
I picked this song because it’s just a classic. As a classic it evokes a warm, cozy feeling, perfect for the winter season. The smooth voice of Dean Martin just creates a nostalgic and festive atmosphere. It is also just a song that is played at every holiday party as there are parts for people to sing in a duet.
“Last Christmas” by Wham! – by Cole J.
While being a song from the early 1980’s, it’s considered a classic Christmas hit. It’s a good song because it’s not overplayed or overwhelming unlike other artists’ songs (cough cough Mariah Carey cough cough). It’s just a good holiday banger!
“Rockin’ around the christmas tree” by Brenda Lee – Aubri M.
because it just takes me back to my childhood. With the colorful tree and christmas lights. With the smell of christmas cookies in the air after coming in from playing in the snow.
“Santa Baby” by Laufey – Aidan R.
Laufey is a vocalist queen. Her jazz roots are PERFECT for a Christmas album (which she finally pulled through and released an album for).
“Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee – Mazzi R.
It’s a very uplifting exciting song, especially with how well Brenda Lee hits the notes especially with how young she was when recording. You can hear the cheeriness in her voice when she sings, giving you that small burst of holiday spirit. Another reason why it’s such a good song is because it’s taking place inside of a Christmas party, everyone is celebrating and having a good time being around loved ones. It’s also a very old song that has been playing for years, becoming an iconic song that must be heard in order for the holidays to be what they are.
